Life As A PhD Student... in the office.

Hey everyone! So here's a post for those who have no idea what I've been upto (*^^*).
Mainly this is for my friends, my Unnie and 妹ちゃん who haven't seen where I work yet, and so I'm posting some photos! *^^*

So. I'm a PhD student, and we all get allocated a desk (or basically choose one that isn't inhabited by coffee and paperwork hehe!) in this office and it's a shared office of around 20. Although most of them are now occupied, not everyone turns up to office.

It's quite interesting in the office despite we don't really see daylight (no difference there for me! Haha): I turn up just after 8 or 8:30am and don't leave the office until around 5pm to go home and do more paperwork (*^^*).
It's REALLY like Emerald Publishing Department from Sekaiichi Hatsukoi (Anime). People rushing around, or there is a deadly silent atmosphere and you can almost see the steam emitting from peoples brains, computer etc. It can get rather stressful and it feels like some people are about to die and turn into zombies working on their projects.

Hehehe! But it's not all that bad; on good days (when the cycle of morale has gone back to being good, having solved all the problems previously faced on their papers) colleagues treat us to lots of Hot Chocolate and Coffee \(*^^*)/ やった

Lately it's been raining heavily and lots of strong winds, so it's not surprising a lot of us turn up soaking wet or miserably cold.

The office is swipe-card accessed, so it's almost strictly confidential, only open to those who have a programmed card that allows access to this specific room.

I'm the youngest of the entire department as the rookie recruit *giggles*. But everyone treats me well and the staff treat me like a friend or fellow colleague. It's a really nice atmosphere despite the stress.

In a previous entry about PhD life, I mentioned about a certain senior lecturer being a fan of Miyavi. Well haha, I shared the 2 albums I've bought with him and he looked as if X'mas has come early; he had a seriously excited grin and was shaking with delight to receive them. It's adorable when you see a middle-aged (??) man who at heart is still a kid; it's something we should all be... to never lose your youth! Haha.

I have 3 wonderful supervisors, my bosses, for the project. My main supervisor, we call him the Director of Studies, is also a huge music fanatic and is hilariously humourous (*^^*) a very down to earth laid back guy. And the two ladies I have are extremely competent and understanding. All in all, a brilliant group of colleagues, so I'm REALLY HAPPY! (*^~^*)

And so I'll leave you with some random photos of my desk on dull cold morning. You can see the desk partitions and the mess of other desks *giggles*.
We also have a file cabinet (which I stock all my snacks!) and a shelf on the wall (RH side) to put all our documents and files etc on.

The desktop is an ancient one which is slower than the rate of us rolling out of bed on a cold morning haha! So I bring my laptop with me in a rucksack (*^^*)

And yes! The cup on the desk is most likely to be a strong coffee or a Mocha *giggles*

I'll see you all soon!! Please feel free to leave comments on my blog, much appreciated!
I'll post more photos of my daily life hehe!
